At the request of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Kamada Signal Appliances designed, manufactured and installed 3-color LED units employing large-scale disaster prevention panels at locations in Suzaki City, Kochi Prefecture and Kuji City, Iwate Prefecture.
Since both of these cities were struck by tsunamis and sustained heavy damage following the Nankaido Earthquake and the Sanriku Offshore Earthquake, respectively, the disaster prevention panels were installed to help raise disaster prevention awareness. Under normal weather conditions, the panels display the weather forecast together with cloud movements, wind distribution, marine forecasts, local temperature, laundry drying information, UV radiation information, tide levels at the local harbor entrance, typhoon information and assorted local information. However, when emergency information such as tsunami or high tide information is input, the panels automatically switch to the alarm information screen under which the expected tsunami arrival time is displayed. In addition, built-in sound systems mounted atop the units warn people in a loud voice (110dB) to evacuate to high ground.
In particular, Suzaki City's disaster prevention information panel became a subject of conversation up and down the country when it was installed as it was the largest self-standing type LED information display panel in Japan at that time.
