At only 0.09 mm, the toothbrush bristles are less than half the diameter of a conventional toothbrush, at around 0.2 mm in diameter. Each toothbrush is equipped with more than 21,000 bristles, twenty to thirty times the count of conventional toothbrushes (which generally run between 700 and 1000). Also, because the bristles vary in length, the Tampopo is more effective at removing plaque.
In addition to superior plaque-removing power, the Tampopo’s cylindrical form fits to the shape of the back side of the front teeth as well as the concave contour of the molars. Dispersing the force used during brushing, the Tampopo massages the gums and is powerful as a tongue cleaner.
STB Higuchi independently developed the cylindrical toothbrush, applying technology for plastic welding to toothbrushes, greatly improving conventional toothbrushes whose bristles are attached using brush filling technology. STB Higuchi’s advanced engineering makes it possible to inexpensively mass produce high-density, cylindrical toothbrushes. They are currently working on other product applications to complement these toothbrushes.
